This course fulfills the new 2018 Colorado Office of Early Childhood guidelines and requirements, including providing trainees with the new standardized certificate of completion.

This course will teach you everything you need to be Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Colorado Division of Early Care and Learning (DECL) compliant in Standard Precautions (formerly referred to as Universal Precautions).

Introduction

Standard Precautions

An introduction to the Standard Precautions requirements for Child Care Providers in Colorado.

Current Universal Precautions training will only be counted as such until the certificate expires or until January 31, 2017. Staff members with expired/outdated certificates and new staff members must complete the department approved OSHA complaint standard precautions training.

Section One – Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases

Length: 24 minutesComplexity: Easy

Standard Precautions

This section will discuss the prevention and control of infectious diseases. We will discuss each of the ways illness is spread. We will also discuss having a health policy as it is required for all licensed programs.

You are required to watch the entire video.

Section Two – Reduce Your Risk

Length: 23 minutesComplexity: Easy

Standard Precautions

In this section, we will discuss how to reduce your risk of infection. We will discuss practices that are designed to both protect and prevent spread of disease among students, children and
staff.

You are required to watch the entire video. After the video you will take a brief quiz.

Section Three – Take Steps if Exposed

Length: 4 minutesComplexity: Easy

Standard Precautions

Even if you practice Standard Precautions correctly, there is still a chance that you will get exposed to an infectious disease. We will now discuss what to do if that happens.

You are required to watch the entire video.

Section Four – Learning Scenarios

Length: 15 minutesComplexity: Easy

Standard Precautions

Now we will put what we learned to use and look at some learning scenarios. This will help you think through standard precautions in various situations.

You must complete the quiz to move on to the next section.

Section Five – Review of Exposure Control Plan

Standard Precautions

OSHA requires that you review and understand the exposure control plan for your program. This will give you a better sense of how your child care program or school handles standard precautions and where personal protective equipment is located on site.

Section Six – Final Exam

Now to put together everything that you have learned up to this point. After the exam you are required to have your Director or Child Care Health Consultant review site-specific Exposure Control Plan(s).

You are required to have your Director or Child Care Health Consultant review site-specific Exposure Control Plan(s). Then have your Director or Child Care Health Consultant sign the “I reviewed the program’s exposure control plan with this participant” line on your certificate. Your certificate will not be valid until your Director or Child Care Health Consultant signs off that you have reviewed the Plan with them.
